This was a conceptual project I worked on under the guidance of Chas Raider-Shieber. I was assigned to set this opera in a different time period. I decided to set this production in 1800s Mexico during Day of the Dead. I chose this because there is an emphasis on life and death connecting, and the idea of storytelling. This becomes especially relevent in the end when the Statue comes to life. I also wanted to incorporate color into the costumes. The richer people are in mostly black because they are more unhappy, while the peasants are in bright colors because they are happy with their life. Leporello is inbetween both groups, wearing brown, because he is a peasant, but works for Don Giovanni and gets dragged into his schemes.
